Project Lead The Way is used in Ann Arbor to teach science and engineering content to students in Pre-K through 12th Grade. Students engage in at least one module each year. In elementary, this module supports the area of physical science in conjunction with Phenomenal Science. I completed training to become a Classroom Launch Teacher using PLTW content.

This year, I attended MACUL with a focus on increasing my knowledge and experience in using Google's G-Suite. My primary focus was to learn about new apps and extensions within Chrome to improve my productivity and to support my classroom teachers on the implementation of Google.
In addition to the increasing my awareness of the various Google supports, I attended several sessions on creating engaging presentations to improve my skills as a building leader. The keynotes were Sir Kenneth Robinson, Jennie Magiera, and Jane McGonigal which each delivered an amazing keynote about the current and future state of education and how technology can play a role in our improvement. |
Based on the book by Bruce Wellman and Laura Lipton, Data Driven Dialogue, I spent a day with Bruce Wellman to learn how to use the process of reviewing and understanding data points within the school environment. This session was offered by the Michigan Department of Education in collaboration with the Michigan FAME project for FAME leaders.

The mission of Cognitive CoachingSM is to produce self-directed persons with the cognitive capacity for excellence both independently and as members of a community. Research indicates that teaching is a complex intellectual activity and that teachers who think at higher levels produce students who are higher achieving, more cooperative, and better problem solvers. It is the invisible skills of teaching, the thinking processes that underlie instructional decisions, which produce superior instruction. Cognitive CoachingSM is a research-based model that capitalizes upon and enhances teachers’ cognitive processes.
In the eight-day Seminars, participants learn how to:

Next Generation Science Exemplar (or NGSX) professional learning system is a unique learning environment designed to connect learners to a multi-faceted web-platform — with a wide range of digital (video and print) resources, guided activities, and interactivity with colleagues. Together, in face-to-face study groups, NGSX participants explore the major ideas found in the NRC Framework and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), developing tools and strategies to take this new vision back into their classrooms. NGSX also serves as a research site to collect data on 3-dimensional learning and the enactment of that learning in classrooms. Finally, NGSX has developed a learning pathway for facilitators. This will support professional learning about how to create and support a knowledge-building culture — designed for teacher leaders, coaches, and PD providers who want to become NGSX facilitators.

Second EdCampSchoolcraft that I attended, I was able to present several sessions. One session was on the use of Formative Assessment in the classroom and the other was to facilitate a EdCamp classic session "Rocks or Sucks."

The Foundations of Mathematics training has continued to evolve and includes the most recent research from Sharon Griffin, John Woodward, Liping Ma, Richard E. Mayer, the National Research Council, and others. This research indicates that number sense must be developed through a carefully sequenced set of learning opportunities in a scaffolded approach. Teacher modeling and student verbal rehearsal of that modeling is important in the pursuit of conceptual understanding. The use of visuals and multiple representations are other researched-based strategies that have been shown to support conceptual understanding.

As a building team, we attended this professional learning to deepen our understanding of Formative Assessment. After each day of the series, I returned back to school to present and share the new information gained. The Formative Assessment learning aligned with our Assessment domain of the 5D+ evaluation system.
